Santiago Barbosa

At Portman, Santiago focuses on sourcing and executing mixed-used development projects. His responsibilities include site selection and acquisition, financial underwriting, managing design and consultant teams, and overseeing budgeting, scheduling, and construction execution. He also supports capital raising efforts throughout the development lifecycle.
Since joining Portman in 2021, Santiago has played a key role in the development of over 650 multifamily residential units. His recent projects include Linea, a 370-unit high-rise located in Charlotte’s South End, and Vera, a 319-unit community in the FreeMoreWest neighborhood.
Prior to Portman, Santiago was with Ares Management, where he was involved in over $1.5 billion in real estate transactions across various U.S. markets. He began his career at Truist Bank on the Institutional Private Capital real estate team, focusing on credit underwriting and portfolio management.
Santiago earned a Master’s in Finance from Washington University in St. Louis and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Clemson University.
