Portman Holdings developed Embarcadero Center over several phases (lasting from 1971 – 1989), creating prime real estate in a former warehouse district, as well as a catalyst for urban renewal. The complex covers eight city blocks, making it one of the largest mixed-use developments in the western United States. It was the recipient of Urban Land Institute’s Award of Excellence in 1984. Portman Holdings partnered with David Rockefeller, Prudential, and Trammell Crow to develop this property.
