John C. Portman, Jr.
Chairman

John C. Portman, Jr. is chairman of the board for Portman Holdings and John Portman & Associates. He also serves as chairman of the board for the AMERICASMART® - ATLANTA complex.

A true visionary, Mr. Portman began his business with a two-man architectural practice and transformed it into an international organization of companies that spans the fields of architecture, development and trade marts. Early in his career, he mastered the intricacies of the architect-developer relationship, and created an efficient and effective marriage between the processes – a modus operandi that has enabled the Portman companies to both design and develop numerous projects.

As an architect, developer, business entrepreneur, and civic leader, Mr. Portman has left his mark on a global scale. His portfolio includes mixed-use, office and hotel projects in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Dallas, Warsaw, Beijing, Shanghai, Cairo, Brussels and Kuala Lumpur, among others.

Most of these projects have had significant socio-economic impact on the revitalization of the urban landscape. In his hometown of Atlanta, the Portman organization has developed more than 18 million square feet in the downtown area and facilitated the city’s evolution into a premier convention city.

Mr. Portman earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
