Steven (Steve) Hooper
Vice President, Human Resources
As people and process champion for Portman Holdings and John Portman & Associates, Steve is responsible for maintaining an innovative, healthy, productive and caring culture for employees. He is constantly challenged to retain and motivate our leading edge workforce and recruit talented employees as the Portman Companies rapidly grow into the twenty-first century after a successful twentieth century.
Steve has more than 30 years of human resources (HR) and organizational development (OD) leadership, internationally and domestically, and came to Portman from JCB, where he was vice president of human resources. Prior to JCB, he partnered with senior leaders in forward-looking companies like Terex, Home Depot, AlliedSignal and Corning to provide solutions to complex problems. Notable among these was the turnaround of Terex through a variety of initiatives which reshaped a poorly performing $200 million company into an $8 billion industry giant.
Steve earned a MA in human resources management from Pepperdine University in 1979 and a BA in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1975. He served 5 years in the U.S. Army’s pilot OD staff officer program and has completed Columbia University’s advanced HR/OD executive program.
