Alvis (Al) Campbell
Senior Advisor to the Chairman

Al has a long and distinguished legal career spanning more than thirty years. He worked with the law firm of Hansell & Post from 1969 to 1989, and with its successor, Jones Day, from 1989 until 2000. His entire legal career has been focused on the field of commercial real estate, and he has decades of experience representing both developers and financial institutions. During his tenure with Hansell & Post and Jones Day, Al served for many years as primary outside legal counsel for the various Portman Companies.

After electing to take early retirement from the practice of law, Al joined Portman to serve as a senior business advisor to John Portman and the various Portman Companies. In this capacity, he works closely with the senior executives of Portman Holdings to consult on potential and ongoing projects, debt and equity financing, and asset management. His expertise in the legal realm of commercial real estate brings a valuable perspective to the company.

Al received his undergraduate M.A. degree from Guilford College in 1966, and his J.D. degree from the Duke University School of Law in 1969. He currently resides with his wife and son in Asheville, North Carolina, but spends several days each week in Atlanta at the Portman Holdings Atlanta office.
