Portman House | Jian Ye Li is a unique historic preservation and redevelopment project located in the heart of Shanghai’s French Concession.  It is the most extensive historic conservation effort among the three pilot projects awarded to private developers by the Shanghai Municipal Government for the purpose of preserving some of Shanghai’s most significant buildings.

Originally built in the early 1930’s, Jian Ye Li was designed by a French architect and is one of the city’s finest examples of Shikumen style housing.  The Shikumen design is unique to Shanghai and represents the blending of traditional Chinese residential elements with functional western concepts.  Portman Holdings and John Portman and Associates have teamed up to painstakingly restore and rebuild the project true to it’s original design, while providing modern conveniences and amenities that offer residents, guests, and visitors a unique opportunity to experience the history of Shanghai.

Portman House is currently under construction and will be completed in the summer of 2010.  It will consist of luxury townhomes available for strata-title sale to individual buyers, luxury serviced residences offering short and long term accommodations in stylishly furnished 2 bedroom apartments, as well upscale retail and dining establishments.  Portman House will be a dynamic enhancement to the local community, serving both international visitors and local residents.
